Garden party events usually take place in the Summer months in the UK due to our ever-changing weather. However it is also common to have or hire a marquee for housing such a garden party at other times of the year, especially when a pianist is employed, or when events continue past dark.
These garden functions can be very large such as in a country estate, or very small as in a private house party, but all can benefit from having me play tasteful piano throughout or during the early part of the event.

A pianist, and indeed the piano, should be protected from the weather. It can also be rather cumbersome to suddenly have to move a piano from its outside location. All in all it may be better to have a roofing cover, and essential if they are going to use their own electric digital instrument, amp and speakers. Alternatively, the pianist could be housed in a marquee or indoors facing out. Usually the amplification is more than capable of covering the whole garden party area as is the case if I use my keyboard, but if the pianist is going to play a grand piano or upright piano, it is worth considering a small outlay on some amplification if the garden party is covering a large area.
Piano Music for the Garden Party
As you will see from my main cocktail pianist page I play music across the board from classical to jazz standards, including just about any style. Garden party music usually consists of sophisticated cocktail music from the pianist for background to guests arrival and drinks. This may require a variation into jazzier or more commercial piano styles later in the event. I will play requests and design the programme according to your exact specifications, or I can be left to organise the event using my expertise and long experience so that you do not have to concern yourselves about this aspect of the garden party if you so wish.
